This type of Low Pit Weigh Bridge sits above of the road surface and requires ramps on either end to allow the vehicles to access the platform. The amount of civil foundations work required is reduced for surface mounted scales, but the overall space requirement is more. Before purchasing, check the overall height of the ‘Weigh Bridge’. Higher decks need longer ramps, which increase the overall footprint of the weigh bridge as well as the turning circle for vehicles approaching the bridge. Generally, surface mounted weigh bridges require guide rails fixed on the sides of the platform, which help vehicles to be aligned centrally on the bridge. This type of installation is better suited when the bridge may need to be shifted, or for temporary (sometimes called ‘portable’) installations.

In most cases the site conditions, such as availability of space, will dictate the type of weigh bridge available to you. Both surface and pit mounted weigh bridges require a firm surface with load bearing capacity, the details of which will be specified in the ‘Plan of Foundation’ drawings provided by the weigh bridge supplier.

It may be advantageous to choose a weigh bridge which has a common structural design for surface and pit mounting, this will allow future flexibility for changing the type of weigh bridge

Modular U Shape Weigh Bridge:
Expert truck scales series which is new generation products with stronger and durable platform structure of U beam, the main beam is made of rigid sections modular like I-Steel, and more than 6mm beam thickness bending by the machine to ensure the complete structure of platform is durable and good quality. High quality steel plates are selected and used for its top platform, and the scale platform is reasonably pieced into 6 pieces beam in the closed frame. Platform welding with special technique CO2 carbon dioxide gas arc welding and auto submerged arc welding, precision measure the space positioning and advanced welding technique to ensure the platform space geometry-dimension and the rational distribution of weld stress.

Open Rib Versus Closed Rib:
There are many ways to design an orthotropic bridge section. The two most common are the open-rib deck (Figure 1) and the closed-rib deck (Figure 2). Please note that the closed-rib design is constructed of individual ribs, not a sandwich of plates and beams. The sandwich design does not offer the same structural efficiency as the closed-rib design. Although the open-rib and closed-rib concepts are similar, the closed-rib design is significantly stronger. Let’s take a look at why. Another benefit of the closed-rib design is that the ribs resist buckling. Figure 5 shows an open rib that is directly under the load. The beam’s web can buckle to either the right or left, causing the rib to fail. To protect against buckling, you would need to add stiffeners to the beam. Figure 6 shows one leg of a closed rib and the direction in which it will always tend to buckle. Figure 7 shows a closed rib with a trapezoidal design. Since each leg tends to buckle toward the inside of the rib, the two forces act against each other. The flat section connecting the two legs transfers the load from one leg to the other, eliminating the possibility that the rib’s legs will buckle. What if the closed rib were square (Figure 8) instead of trapezoidal? As with the I-beam design, the legs can buckle in either direction. The flat bottom of the rib is less effective because both legs could fail in the same direction, causing the rib to collapse.

• This orthotropic geometry offers even load distribution throughout the structure. When there is concentrated loading on the structure there is minimum deflection and the load transfer is always vertical on the Load cells. This results in highly accurate Weighment.
• In bolted I beam based structures, the strength of bolts becomes very critical and sometimes leads to failure. As orthotropic structures are completely welded, the chance of structural failure is minimized.
• These superior structures are designed using latest CAD and CAE procedures. Each structure is analyzed through our advanced structural software. These structures are also tested by using actual weights.
• Compared to I beams available in the market which are re-rolled by many manufacturers, the thickness of the flange and web varies along the length of the beam leading to lower structural strength.
